Osaka doesn’t need a travel blog to tell you it’s worth visiting. You already know that. What you need is someone to tell you which ramen shop is actually worth the queue, which neighborhood to stay in based on how you travel, and what the tourist traps are dressed up as must-sees.

That’s what we’re here for.

Explore Osaka is an independent English-language travel guide dedicated entirely to Osaka, Japan. Not Japan in general. Not a “Kyoto day trip tacked onto an Osaka base” guide. Osaka, specifically and obsessively.

Why Osaka-Only?

Most travel sites cover Japan as a whole. Osaka gets a chapter, a listicle, maybe a hotel roundup. It’s treated as a stopover between Tokyo and Kyoto when it deserves far better than that.

Osaka has its own personality, its own food culture, its own neighborhoods with real character, and its own rhythms that take more than 48 hours to understand. We think it deserves a site that treats it that way.

So that’s what we built.

What We Cover

Every section of this site is built around how real travelers actually plan a trip:

  • Things to Do — Attractions, experiences, and day trips, with honest takes on what’s worth your time and what isn’t.
  • Food — Osaka is Japan’s kitchen. We cover everything from street-side takoyaki to serious kaiseki, neighborhood by neighborhood.
  • Where to Stay — Hotel picks across every budget, with context on which area actually suits your travel style.
  • Itineraries — Day-by-day plans for 1, 2, 3, and 4-day trips, built around real logistics, not idealized walking distances.
  • Getting Around — Transport options from the airport, metro guides, pass comparisons, and day trip routes.
  • Practical Tips — Budgets, safety, SIM cards, cash vs card, and everything else that doesn’t fit neatly into a category but matters enormously.

How We Work

All editorial content on Explore Osaka is written and edited by people who have spent real time in the city. We don’t publish AI-generated lists of 50 things to do based on what every other site already says.

We use affiliate links to support the site. When you book a hotel or tour through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences which hotels or tours we recommend — we only link to things we’d genuinely point a friend toward. You can read more in our FTC Disclosure.

We update our content regularly. Travel information goes stale fast. Prices change, places close, transport fares go up. If something looks outdated, please use the contact form to let us know.

A Note on Accuracy

We do our best to keep prices, hours, transport fares, and practical details current. That said, Osaka is a city that moves quickly. Always verify critical information (admission prices, opening hours, transport schedules) directly with the source before you travel.
