Best Food in Osaka: What to Eat, Where to Eat It

Osaka didn't earn the title of Japan's Kitchen by accident. This is a city where locals eat four meals a day and consider it a reasonable start. From ¥600 takoyaki eaten standing up in Dotonbori to ¥15,000 kaiseki menus in Kitahama, every yen spent on food in Osaka is a yen well spent. This guide covers every dish worth eating, every neighbourhood worth grazing through, and every restaurant worth booking in advance.

Osaka's food identity runs deeper than takoyaki and okonomiyaki — though you absolutely need both. The city has distinct food personalities by neighbourhood: Shinsekai for kushikatsu, Tsuruhashi for yakiniku, Kuromon for fresh seafood at breakfast, Namba for everything, loudly, at midnight. Browse by cuisine type below, or start from the top and work your way through the whole lot.
